 Multisensory Onset and Rime Spinner Bingo game sets for phonological awareness, in two packs to be purchased separately or together.

Phonological awareness describes the ability of the brain to differentiate individual sounds within words. Many children with Dyslexia suffer from weak phonological awareness as a result of dyslexia-related processing dfficulties, and this can be one of the underlying problems behind their reading and spelling problems. Many of these children find it easier to develop spelling strategies using RIME chunks than to learn traditional (synthetic) phonics.  SPINGOES is a highly structured series of games using a simple "Bingo" principle that strengthens this area through an enjoyable mutisensory game format.

SPINGOES consists of two sets of 60 games (short vowels and long vowel), each containing 10 sets of individual word family games and ten recap games games.  Spinners and reproducible bingo sheets are included. The spinners are made of high quality rigid plastic with non-slip feet that can be used with other games or with overhead transparencies.

Each game gives students the opportunity to build a variety of  onsets onto the same rime. Initial blend onsets are introduced gradually, according to levels of difficulty.

Individual word family game: ACE.

 

1) PREPARE: 
Point to Sp to make SPACE, then make all the other words orally.
2) WRITE: 
Players write each word TWICE on their bingo sheet.
3) PLAY: 
Spin, and players cross off one word at a time until one has a line.

 

Recap game: A – E families

 

1) PREPARE:  
Moving the spinner round the board, have the children make as many rime analogies as possible from each family.
2) WRITE: 
Players write 16 different words on their bingo sheet, using each family at least once.
3) PLAY: 
spin, and players cross off one word at a time that contains the rime chunk shown, until one player has a line.
                                
Short vowel rimes: AT, IP, OP, UN etc (CVC rimes) ACK  ING UMP etc., (CVCC rimes)

Long vowel rimes : OO, EE,  and Vowel +E RIMES (illustrated above); other vowel digraph rimes AIN, EAT, OIL etc, + -GHT rimes.
