Why choose dyslexia overlays from Crossbow Education?

 

Crossbow have been supplying Visual Stress resources to schools since 2005, and are the creators of the Eye Level Reading Ruler.

Coloured overlays in a range of at least ten colours provide research-based ergonomic support to people experiencing the visual difficulties that often occur alongside dyslexia. Our coloured overlays are the only ones on the market manufactured in eco-friendly recyclable PET, and are of the highest quality and clarity. All Crossbow overlays are measured throughout production for conformity to sample colours produced directly from the research findings of the dept of Visual Science at Essex University. They have a scratch-resistant coating and, unlike some PVC copies, contain no toxic chemicals.

 

Our colours have been scientifically developed to ensure that they can combined to produce the maximum number of colour combinations in an evenly spaced circle around the colourspace. Laboratory tests have shown that the high level of clarity of our products means that two, or even (in extreme cases of visual stress) three overlays can be used together and the text remain clearly visible under dense grating.

Peer-reviewed research on our coloured overlays and reading rulers  from a sample of 106 typical primary school children showed that "All but four children had reduced reading times with one of the reading aids and all but one reported their aid improved the perceived visual clarity of the text" (from the abstract: A comparison of the effects of the colour and size of coloured overlays on young children’s reading.
